Gainsborough Trinity 4 – 5 Harrogate Town

20 August 2017

Harrogate Town gained their fourth victory of the season when they triumphed by the odd goal in nine at the Northolme,Gainsborough.

Unchanged Town, almost took an early lead when Josh Falkingham’s cross was just out of the reach of Jordan Thewlis.

A Simon Ainge shot from Joe Leesley’s cross was deflected to Louis Jones in the home goal, but on thirteen minutes
Trinity took the lead.

A Bradley Wells centre was deflected into the path of ex Town striker,Ashley Worsfold, and he was able to shoot past James Belshaw.

Worsfold soon had the ball in the Town net again but the goal was ruled out for a clear offside.

On 33 minutes,Ainge was replaced by Dom Knowles and within a minute,Town were level.

Knowles pulled back for Leesley whose shot was too hot for Jones to handle and Emmett was able to finish from close range.

Almost on half time,Emmett bundled Trinity’s,Nathan Jarman, over on the edge of the area, earning himself a yellow card and Wells’ free kick into Town’s defensive wall took a slight deflection to beat Belshaw.

An amazing first fifteen minutes of the second period appeared to put Town firmly into the driving seat.

On 49 minutes, George Thomson’s blocked shot fell to Knowles who calmly rounded a defender, before slotting past Jones.

Five minutes later,Town took the lead for the first time when Falkingham won the ball in midfield and released Knowles who fed Leesley on the left and his vicious cross shot flashed into the net from a narrow angle.

On the hour,Leesley made it four when his shot from long range deflected off Ioan Evans into the net.

The visitor’s seemed, home and hosed, but Trinity had other ideas.

Sub,Jonathan Wafula, made ground down the right and centred for the unmarked,Craig King, to drive home past Belshaw.

Much to the Town camp’s consternation,on 74 minutes,Trinity equalised when Shane Clarke scored when a deep free kick was headed back across Town’s goal.

The relief was palpable, when with only six minutes left, sub Terry Kennedy headed in Thomson’s inswinging corner to give Town the narrowest of victory’s.
