Disabled People To Stage Midnight Walk To Raise Funds For Their Harrogate Residential Care Home

11 July 2017

Young disabled people are to stage their own mini-midnight walk this Friday (July 14) to raise funds for their Harrogate home.

Up to 15 residents living in Disability Action Yorkshire’s Claro Road care home will be joined by staff and volunteers for the sponsored event beginning at 11pm and finishing on the stroke of midnight.

The participants will start from the Claro Road establishment then follow the Harrogate Park Run route around Oatlands Stray, before heading back to their home.

The home, which was opened ten years ago by the Duchess of Wessex, is owned and run by the charity, and specialises in supporting up to 22 physically disabled adults who are fully involved with its day to day running.

The customers will be joined on the walk by staff, managers, friends and relatives.

Karen Minteh, Disability Action Yorkshire’s Care and Support Manager, said: This year, we are celebrating Disability Action Yorkshire’s 80th anniversary and ten years since Claro Road opened.

This midnight walk is one of a number of events taking place over the coming months to help us mark this double milestone.

The customers have taken the lead on this particular activity. They decided what event they wanted to do and they have organised it themselves.

The aim is to raise money for new equipment via sponsorship, and one customer has already had more than £150 in pledges.

Our job at Claro Road is to work with customers in enabling them to achieve whatever it is they want from life, with the aim of them moving into the community when they are confident and ready.

This walk really epitomises that aim and we, as the staff, are delighted to support them with it, and join them on the night to participate in it.

The walk will begin at 11pm at 34 Claro Road and finish at midnight back at 34 Claro Road.
