Harrogate & District bring Meru (Kenya) Garden Project to Ripon

10 April 2017

The Ripon Home and Garden Event at Ripon Cathedral on 8 April 2017, was an opportunity for the Harrogate & District Soroptimists to raise awareness of their Meru Women’s Garden Project and sell some of the delicious Meru Herbs Jams and Sauces.

It was a very busy day with many people visiting the stand to find out more about the project and to buy the jams. Tomato and Chilli sauce proved very popular and most of the jams were sold that were available to buy on the day.

The Meru Women’s Garden Project is a Soroptimist 3 year International joint project with Child.org. The project aims to develop the well being and status of women living in this very poor and malnourished area of Kenya by helping them to develop the land (garden) around their houses, so that they can both feed themselves better and have additional vegetables, fruit and herbs to sell to provide an income.

Meru Herbs jams and sauces are available to buy from JTS Ethical Foods. JTS also donate 10p per jar to the Meru Women’s Garden Project – just let them know that you are supporting the Soroptimist Meru Women’s Garden Project.
