Sunshine Ball for Oscar and Felix

21 February 2017

Two local mums are planning a charity ball to raise money to give their sons life enhancing rehabilitation therapy.

Sarah Williams and Caroline Day hope their Sunshine Ball in June will boost a fund to buy essential equipment for Felix and Oscar and send both boys to Canada for specialist treatment.

Felix Williams, 6, is unable to walk or crawl as a result of a life-limiting neurological condition. Oscar Day, 4, has cerebral palsy and requires regular and intensive physiotherapy.

Both mums say they have already been overwhelmed by the support they have received from the local community since their sons were diagnosed. A year ago The Rainbow Fund paid for a special wheelchair for Felix after his parents were told it was no longer available on the NHS and in December local businesses joined forces to help Oscar reach his £10K target to pay for his trip to Canada for treatment.

Caroline said: Both boys will now be heading to Canada this summer and although we’ve managed to meet a lot of the costs involved there is still so much to pay for and an ongoing need for special equipment as the boys grow.

What keeps us going is the fact that the treatment they will receive in Canada is specifically designed for children like Oscar and Felix and has the potential to significantly improve their quality of life.

As Oscar’s mum I would be thrilled if he could one day sit unaided or even learn to crawl, stand or take his first independent steps.

The ball will take place at the Pavilions of Harrogate at the Great Yorkshire Showground on Saturday 17 June 2017. Tickets are £40 each to include a three course meal and disco.
