Show supporter marks 25 years with presidential role

A new president has been appointed to lead Tockwith Show in 2017 – marking 25 years since his first involvement with the event.

Richard Search, who runs plant hire and events management company Search, which has supplied the show for many years, has taken the ceremonial crook from outgoing president Sarah Burckhardt.

He and wife Sally-Anne have attended almost every show since their daughters were born and recently became Friends For Life of Tockwith Show. With their eldest daughter now 24, they mark their silver anniversary at Tockwith Show next year.

Richard said: Among the many thought that crossed my mind when asked if I’d consider being Tockwith Show President was a feeling that I’m too young to be that old!

Any reflection on my aging didn’t, however, diminish the honour I felt and feel to be asked to act as President, an honour shared both my family and indeed my work colleagues who work hard to support the show in our role as a supplier.

Richard’s chosen charities are Saint Michael’s Hospice and Follifoot Park Disabled Riders Group, both based in the Harrogate area.

Sarah, who has been involved with Tockwith and District Agricultural Society for many years, raised more than £1,600 during her year of office for each of her two chosen charities, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Family Community Network.

Richard added: Sarah organised some great fundraising events during the year, including a ‘Call My Bluff’ wine tasting and a Pimm’s and Pork party at her house, along with the President’s Auction at the end of the show.

She will certainly be a hard act to follow, but I will do my best to carry out the presidential duties on behalf of the committee. I’m looking forward to a busy and interesting year.

As well as the annual show, this year taking place on Sunday, August 6, Tockwith and District Agricultural Society organises regular fundraising events. The next will be its popular car boot sale on the Cattal Moor Lane site on Bank Holiday Monday, 1 May 2017.
