Harrogate Railway Ladies away at Cleethorpes Town Ladies, match report

4 December 2016

Harrogate Railway Ladies were away to Cleethorpes Town Ladies in the NERWL today and came away 3-5 winners.
The girls started off full of confidence after back to back wins and it didn’t take long for Louise Donnelly to test the Cleethorpes keeper with a low shot which was saved. However on 20 minutes a long ball straight down the middle found the Railway defence wanting and the striker found the bottom corner 1-0 Cleethorpes.

On 25 minutes a well worked move down the left involving Laura Savage and Jodi Hodgson found Louise Donnelly, who crossed for Emma Landsall to score with a great header at the back post.

Railway were starting to find their confidence and a well worked move between Nicola Hadley and Jade Holt again on 35 mins found Emma Landsall who smashed home from 12 yards, 1-2 Railway. With the half coming to a close Railway gained a corner which was crossed in by Jade Holt and guess who was on the end, Emma Landsall completing a hat trick in the 1st half! Half time 1-3 Railway.

The 2nd half saw Railway start flat and the Cleethorpes girls managed to again launch a long ball over the Railway defence to find the striker yet again who calmly slotted past Charlotte Donnelly 2-3. This kick started Railway again who worked a 6 pass move to find Jade Holt from 20 yards who finished calmly in the top corner 2-4. Railway.

Railway created chance after chance and in truth there should have been another 5/6 goals with the amount of chances created. However this gave Cleethorpes more heart and on 70 minutes they made the score 3-4 with another counter attack.

Railway stayed calm and apart from a brave save from Charlotte Donnelly, the Cleethorpes team rarely came in the Railway half. On 92 minutes a classy move with Paige Swales and Lorna Cooper found its way to Nicola Hadley who slotted past the keeper in the bottom corner, 3-5 Railway.

Players of the match were Emma Landsall and Jodi Hodgson.

On reflection the Railway girls should have been in double figures for goals scored, but just proves you cant be complacent in this division. This result has lifted the Railway Ladies of the bottom of the league for the first time this season, the girls are at home to Sheffield Wednesday next Sunday 2pm KO at Station View.
