Harrogate Railway Ladies away at Farsley FC

6 November 2016

Harrogate Railway Ladies were away today against title favourites Farsley FC and looked like causing a great upset. With a great start to the game it took only 3 minutes for the Railway Ladies to get forward and win the first corner, this was sent in by right back and player of the match, Paige Swales and after a scramble it was finally cleared by Farsley. This certainly got the red and greens spirit lifted and sent Farsley into a spin.

Railway kept on pushing forward winning the midfield, passing wide and with a new striker in the team, Nicola Hadley, causing all sorts of problems up front things were looking good. Finally, after 16 minutes of hard work Jade Holt played a wide ball to the right where Zarah Avila went down the line, crossed into the feet of Nicola who tricked the defender passed across goal to Louise Donnelley who slotted home,0-1. Farsley came back at rail with some fast play down the right but with the back four working well and Charllote Donnelley in great form Farsley were kept out. Railway were the better side in the first half but as the half time whistle blew the pace of the game was starting to show.

Farsley came out with three changes to the team and the pace they set was quite incredible they also got to show how quick they could pass the ball in tight spaces and as such drawing in the railway players which in turn created big spaces that they then exploited and after 62 minutes Farsley were 2-1 up.

Railway only had 12 players for this match and as the game went on and Farsley (with 16 on the day) changing every so often for fresh legs the railway girls were beginning to tire fast, but they never gave up. Farsley pretty much had the upper hand in the second half scoring two more and showed why they are title favourites already, and not dropping any points yet, in the last ten minutes the Railway ladies dug deep and had a couple of chances but to no avail, the final score 4-1.

This was by far the best performance this season regardless of the final score today and with key players still to return to the squad in the next 2 weeks the management are feeling a bit more confident that things are about to start falling into place and the Ladies will get the results they now deserve.
