Local boy Oliver May has won a national painting competition with popular home furnishing retailer, Terrys Fabrics. Oliver, aged 10, from Harrogate, was inspired by his love of all things space. A fan of British astronaut Tim Peake

Mum, Katherine said:

When Oliver found the competition online, he didn’t hesitate to draw an observatory on the roof and was relieved when he heard that accuracy was not important and he could let his imagination flow.

The family were surprised however when Oliver was not the only winner in their household. 2nd place was given to younger sibling Eleanor, aged 8, who drew a fantastical treehouse, complete with swing!

Proud mum Katherine said:

One of her favourite books is the Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton and she has often spoken about how much she would love to live in a tree house. So for Eleanor, there was also no hesitation about what she wanted to draw for her dream house.

There were lots of great entries, with many of them being shared and voted on across social media. It was a tough job deciding on 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, but after much deliberation the winners were announced. In 3rd place, was Evie Turkington, aged 7 from Crowthorne, Berkshire.

Paul McGuiness, Director of Terrys Fabrics said:

We wanted to create a competition that really encouraged creativity and rewarded both parents and their children. We’re thrilled with the entries we received and the fabulous outpouring of imagination.
