Musicians to make history at Royal Hall

18 October 2016

From aeromedical and cyber intelligence to cooking and photography the roles performed by RAF Reservists around the UK and abroad in support of Regular forces are wide and varied.

RAF Reserves are often seen serving alongside RAF Regulars and they enjoy the best of both worlds by balancing their own careers and home life with the challenge and adventure of the RAF

However, history is set to be made in Harrogate on Friday (October 21) when three Reservist musicians join the Band of the Royal Air Force College for the RAF In Concert performance at the Royal Hall.

Saxophonist Chief Technician Tony Giles, clarinettist Sgt Neil Atkinson and percussionist Sgt Ian Harding became the first members of the recently formed Band of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force and will be the first ever to feature in an RAF massed bands concert tour.

Based at RAF College Cranwell in Lincolnshire, musicians in the Band of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force are expected to support their Regular counterparts at a variety of formal events including the forthcoming Festival of Remembrance in London on 12 November 2016.

I am delighted to be the first part-time volunteer Reserve to join the newly established band. It’s a fantastic opportunity for dedicated musicians both locally and nationally wishing to broaden their musical horizons and the journey starts in Harrogate at the Royal Hall on Friday.

Tickets for the RAF In Concert performance at the Royal Hall are priced from £19 – £25. For details and further information, visit rafinconcert.com or call the Royal Hall Box Office on 01423 502116.
