National Team of the Year success for North Yorkshire Infection Prevention and Control professionals

4 October 2016

A North Yorkshire NHS Infection Prevention and Control Team has won the prestigious Team of the Year Award at the Infection Prevention Society 2016 Awards.

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust’s Community Infection Prevention and Control Team has scooped the award for its work supporting best practice in the local community, in places such as care homes, GP practices and dental surgeries.

This national award gives professionals the opportunity to recognise and celebrate excellence in infection prevention and control.

Judges praised “the work of this team with their ‘can do, will do’ attitude resulting in the production of high quality online educational resources for infection prevention and control in the community which aims to improve standards and reduce healthcare associated infection”.

They added that “the reach of these resources influences practice locally, nationally, and internationally, and their success is derived from utilising the skills of the multidisciplinary team and working together to make a difference in infection prevention and control”.

The Community Infection Prevention and Control Team is a dynamic and innovative team with vast experience of working with staff in the health and social care sector. It supports organisations such as care homes, GP practices and dental clinics to ensure compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as well as Care Quality Commission compliance. Further details about how they provide support can be found on their website: www.infectionpreventioncontrol.co.uk.

Kath Banfield, Matron, said:

The whole team is delighted with this award win. We’re really pleased to have been recognised for the work we do supporting organisations not just in North Yorkshire but across the country.

Infection prevention and control is so important to the safety of patients so it’s vital it is taken seriously. Wherever providers are, our team are here to help. Our multi-disciplinary team works together, maximising everyone’s strengths and skills to develop high quality evidence-based educational resources. Because these resources are developed by clinically focused professionals, health and social care staff find them easy to translate into practice.

Our vision to be the market leader for infection prevention and control educational resources is sustained through regular review, refresh and update of existing resources alongside development of new resources.
