Memory Walk smashes fundraising target

28 September 2016

The Harrogate Memory Walk organised by local MP Andrew Jones and the Alzheimer’s Society has exceeded all expectations.  Memory Walks are the main fundraisers for the Alzheimer Society and take place across the country during September.

This was the second Harrogate Memory Walk with last year’s event raising just short of £2,000 towards research into dementia.  Then around 60 people joined Mr Jones on the walk around Harrogate’s Valley Gardens.

This year Mr Jones and the Alzheimer’s Society team set a fundraising target of £5,000 – more than double the amount raised in 2015.  And last week, Mr Jones presented local Alzheimer’s Society Services Manager, Alison Wrigglesworth with a cheque for £6,348.53.

Mr Jones commented:

People have really rallied round to support the Memory Walk with well over 100 people joining me for the event.  They have also been generous with their sponsorship enabling us to reach this magnificent total.  We also had super business support from Taylors of Harrogate, Harrogate Spa Water, Sainsbury’s and Clarity Office Solutions which we really appreciated.

Alison Wrigglesworth added:

Last year we said we were going to make the event bigger and better and we did.  Every penny of the cash raised will go towards beating this cruel disease and supporting those who are living with it.
