Hotel staff take on Yorkshire’s highest peaks to support NSPCC

19 September 2016

On Sunday, 11 September 2016, a group of Aldwark Manor Golf and Spa Hotel’s most intrepid staff took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise money for the NSPCC.

Hiking up Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, the group of 24 – which includes staff, family and friends from both Aldwark Manor Golf and Spa Hotel near York and Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Resort near Scunthorpe – scaled more than 2,500km during the day.

Speaking to team Alwarke Manor, before the challenge.

Christophe Gitton, General Manager of Aldwark Manor, said:

I am so proud of the team for taking on the three highest peaks in Yorkshire, and for going out of their way to support our charity partner the NSPCC.

I know all of them will be pushing themselves towards the finish line on Sunday knowing every step they take will be supporting the most vulnerable children across the UK, and I hope they enjoy the experience along the way.

Aldwark Manor chief NSPCC fundraiser, Chantelle Gallagher, who is taking part in the trek, said:

The main reason we wanted to do this is because we wanted to support the NSPCC but in a different way that really stood out. It’s going to be quite a challenge but it will definitely be worth it.

Some of us have done a lot more training than others so I think some people are feeling a little nervous now, but we’re all going to stick together and do it as a team. I know that everyone will be supporting each other and we’ll all make sure no-one gets left behind.

We’re really hoping for nice weather on the day – not too hot but clear enough to get good views when we get to the tops of the peaks. The fact that we’re supporting such a worthwhile cause is a great motivation, but good views would be a bonus.

The team’s efforts are all part of QHotels goal of raising £300,000 for the NSPCC over the next three years.

Caroline Brennan, Fundraising Manager at the NSPCC said:

This really is a huge challenge the team are taking on and I can’t thank them enough for the time, energy and enthusiasm they’ve put into this event.

The money they’re raising will help us reach even more children when they need us most, whether it’s offering a listening ear through Childline or teaching children how to stay safe when faced with risky situations.

With their help we can ensure more children are protected from harm, and allow them to have happy, healthy and fulfilling childhoods.

They have currently raised £642.17 for the NSPCC, but more sponsorship money is coming in.
