Two described as in a serious condition following collision near Harrogate

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision near Harrogate on Saturday 10 September 2016.

The collision occurred at around 1pm on the B6161 between the village of Beckwithshaw and Briscoe Ridge Lane. The collision involved a red Volksawagen Golf which was travelling towards Beckwithshaw from the direction of Leathley and a black Aprilia motorcycle which was travelling in the opposite direction away from Beckwithshaw towards Leathley. The motorcycle was carrying a pillion passenger and both rider and passenger were wearing black leathers.

As a result of the collision, the rider of the motorcycle, a 48-year-old man, and the pillion, a 47-year-old woman, from the Boroughbridge area, sustained serious injuries and were both taken by air ambulances to hospital, where they remain in a critical condition.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 34-year-old woman from the Ripon area, sustained minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment.
