Yorkshire Young Achievers foundation supports hospice’s work

6 September 2016

Emotional wellbeing support for young people in Yorkshire has received a boost thanks to a grant from the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation.

Since last year, Saint Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate has been running a pilot project to support schools with the bereavement and wider emotional wellbeing needs of their student communities.

The grant from the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation will help the new project, which is part of the charity’s Just ‘B’ service, to continue.

It provides emotional wellbeing support through confidential one-to-one sessions for students, together with advice for staff, student group work, assemblies, family support and training and education for learning managers.

Chief Executive of Saint Michael’s Hospice Tony Collins said:

We are delighted to say that since our grant application we have received even more interest in the project from other schools who have heard about the positive impact and outcomes.

This grant will play a vital role in helping us to extend the project further to help more students in more school communities across the area to live healthier and happier futures.

We would like to thank the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation very much for helping us to make this happen.

Foundation Trustee Sonia Jones said:

The Foundation’s mission is to support young people across Yorkshire to achieve their full potential and to help them to overcome challenges along the way. Bereavement is hard at any age but can be particularly difficult for young people and we are delighted to help Saint Michael’s to support them.

The Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation distributes funds raised by the annual Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards, sponsored by McCormicks Solicitors of Harrogate.

The Awards have now raised more than £1m since their inception and tickets are on sale for the 2016 Awards at the Leeds United Centenary Pavilion on Thursday 17 November 2016.

The Foundation was formed in 2010 to support young people in the region to achieve their potential and makes grants to individuals and projects.
