Washburn Heritage Centre looks for more volunteers

31 August 2016

The Washburn Heritage Centre and tearoom is looking for more weekend and bank holiday volunteers.

The centre, next to Fewston church, is a popular venue for people walking around Swinsty reservoir and local footpaths and apart from the last weekend of the month it serves light lunches prepared freshly on the premises as well as a variety of delicious cakes and biscuits made by volunteers.

On the last weekend of the month there are drinks and complimentary biscuits.

There is a changing display of permanent and temporary exhibitions in the tea room which is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-4.30pm from April 1 to October 31 and on Sundays from 11am-4pm from 1 November 2016  to 31 March 2016.

Volunteer Cynthia said she was made to feel very welcome as a tea room helper:

I am enjoying being part of the friendly team. All sorts of visitors find us and are impressed by the hidden history of the valley, and of course the delicious baking.

The visitors’ book shows how much people appreciate the service. Ann said: A welcome tea with delicious cake at the lovely friendly heritage centre”, while Beth described her visit as “a lovely, lovely little place with possibly the best coffee and walnut cake ever.”
