Wensleydale creamery welcomes Horticap charity Wallace and Gromit garden

3 August 2016

The Wensleydale Creamery, based at Hawes in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, is welcoming visitors to come and enjoy the interactive family experience at its Visitor Centre this Summer, which will host Horticap’s Wallace and Gromit indoor garden display.

As part of a multi-million pound investment in The Wensleydale Creamery, phase one of the Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience takes visitors on a journey through the art of cheese-making, including the opportunity to watch Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese being handcrafted from a Cheese-making Viewing Gallery. There is fun for the whole family with hands-on games and activities such as driving the children’s milk tanker and learning all about how a cow makes milk!

During August, the Harrogate-based charity Horticap, which provides training in horticulture, allied crafts and rural skills for adults with learning disabilities, will bring its Wallace and Gromit “Grand Day Out” garden to be displayed in the Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience at The Wensleydale Creamery’s Visitor Centre. The garden has been designed and built by Horticap’s students, and will offer visitors the opportunity to take their photo with Wallace and Gromit too!

Throughout Summer, visitors can also enjoy a programme of live demonstrations at the Visitor Centre, including watching a 1lb Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese being made from eight pints of milk in just 40 minutes, and the Visitor Centre chefs demonstrating the creation of dishes inspired by the use of The Creamery’s handcrafted cheese – with the opportunity to taste of course!

There’s more sampling for visitors with over 20 different varieties of handcrafted, award-winning cheese to try..

David Hartley, Managing Director of The Wensleydale Creamery, said:

We look forward to welcoming visitors to The Wensleydale Creamery this Summer, to enjoy our Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience, from watching the cheese being handcrafted, to savouring the finished product in our Cheese Shop and in the mouth-watering dishes served in the Restaurant and Coffee Shop.  We’re delighted to host Horticap’s Wallace and Gromit Garden; it will be a brilliant addition to our Visitor Centre for the Summer and promises a grand day out for all!
