Bradleys Jewellers raises over £2,000 for local charity

Bradleys Jewellers has raised over £2,000 for Harrogate based charity The PPR Foundation. The Charity provides much needed funding for research and personnel to help in the battle against cancerous brain tumours.

Bradleys, a keen supporter of local charities, raised the money by selling raffle tickets to win a diamond necklace worth £5,000, donated by Mrs Bradley.

The PPR Foundation was set up by Pamela Roberts after her husband, whom she knew since she was 11, died of a brain tumour in his late 50s. Pamela bravely turned something devastating into a chance to raise money for this less funded form of cancer. The charity’s aim is to raise £1m and donate 100% of this to helping fight the disease.

Bradleys The Jewellers has staff that have lost loved ones to cancer, so they felt they had an affinity with the local charity. All of the Company’s six stores took part in the auction and sold an amazing 438 tickets between them.

Remarkably, the winner of the £5,000 necklace, who wished to remain anonymous, asked for it to be auctioned again to raise further funds for The PPR Foundation. So this month (July) the winner, Ruth Wright from Northallerton, picked up their 0.90 carat diamond necklace, and Mrs Bradley was able to hand over a cheque for £2,192 to the PPR Foundation’s founder, Pamela Roberts at the jeweller’s Harrogate store.

Bradley’s owner, Mrs Janet Bradley, said:

As a company we wanted to celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday, and for our customers to be part of those celebrations. We also thought it would be a great opportunity to raise much needed funds for a local charity, The PPR foundation, a charity we have supported over the past few years. I’ve known Pam since she established the charity and I’ve always admired her passion to help others. And so the idea of raffling a diamond pendant came to life. I couldn’t believe it when the winner of the draw re-donated the prize to help raise more. An amazingly selfless act! We would like to say a huge thanks too to all our customers that bought tickets.

Pamela Roberts, founder of The PPR Foundation said:

The charity was set up to raise funds to help find a cure for this debilitating and bewildering illness. We were thrilled that Bradleys helped in this way, and very grateful to Janet for kindly donating the necklace.
