It’s Question Time with Harrogate Borough Council

13 July 2016

A new initiative by the district’s senior councillors will see them face questions from the general public.

The event – ‘Ask the Cabinet‘ – is the first in an annual programme of events where members of the public can come to an open meeting and ask the council’s Cabinet whatever they want.

Everyone attending will also be able to take away with them a free blue recycling bag, a black recycling box and will be able to register to receive email and text notifications of council news such as changes to bin collection dates due to bank holidays.

The meeting is to take place on Thursday 28 July 2016 at 6pm in the Queen’s Suite at Harrogate International Centre (HIC).

The event is open to anybody to ask any question they wish about any issue for which Harrogate Borough Council is responsible for, or for which it can influence others.

‘Ask the Cabinet’ with be chaired by Council Leader, Councillor Richard Cooper, and will also include the Council’s Chief Executive, Wallace Sampson. The full Cabinet will be there to answer questions.

Harrogate Borough Council Leader Councillor Richard Cooper said:

It is going to be quite nerve-wracking answering the public’s questions with no warning of what they might be. But, as councillors we are here to be accountable; not hidden away from residents.

I am also keen that people have the opportunity to see the wider picture of all the services the council offers.  There will be a number of those services on display and, to help our environment, residents will be able to take away blue recycling bags and black boxes.

Anyone wishing to attend the event should register their interest by emailing askthecabinet@harrogate.gov.uk or calling 01423 500600 (ext 58060).
