Order of Mercy

13 July 2016

A leading Yorkshire solicitor has been awarded the Order of Mercy for his voluntary work.

Peter McCormick OBE, Senior Partner of McCormicks Solicitors of Harrogate, was recognised for his role as Chairman of the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation which has raised more than £1m for young people in the region.

The award is made by the League of Mercy Foundation to individuals who have given seven or more years of outstanding service, with only a small number of awards made nationally every year. The League was established in 1899 and its current President is Lord Lingfield DL.

Mr McCormick received his medal at an Investiture ceremony at The Mansion House in London on Monday 4 July. He was described by the League at the Investiture as a “unique and inspiring person”.

Peter said:

I am very honoured to be recognised by the League of Mercy for the work we do in helping young people in Yorkshire to achieve their full potential.

My fellow Trustees deserve this acknowledgement just as much as I do and I thank them for their contributions to the charity.

The Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation distributes funds raised by the annual Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards, now in their 24th year, and other events, both to individuals and to groups supporting individuals. Grant recipients have ranged from children with complex disabilities to promising young sportspeople and musicians and from youth projects to cricket clubs.

McCormicks Solicitors is the main sponsor of the Awards and offers a full range of legal services. In addition to his role at the firm, Mr McCormick is one of two Premier League members of the F.A. Board and has worked with the Premier League for more than 20 years, including in two of his current roles as Chairman of the Football Board and Chairman of the Legal Advisory Group.
