Harrogate couple receive commendation at MS Society Award Ceremony

15 June 2016

After raising £10,071 in a year-long series of gruelling physical challenges, Harrogate couple, Chris and Alison Pooley, received an official commendation at the Multiple Sclerosis Society Awards Ceremony.

Around 10,000 people suffer from MS in the UK, and, as Chris has witnessed first-hand with a fellow work colleague, it can have a dramatic impact on people’s lives.

Held at etc.venues in London, the couple were invited to celebrate their achievements along with a number of other top MS Society fundraisers from all across the UK.

Chris and Ali said:

We are very proud to receive this commendation and so thankful to everyone who has sponsored us over the past year. It’s been a challenging year, and has not been without a few difficulties and injuries but it has been more than worth it to help raise money for such an important cause.

In total, the couple completed 17 events including everything from half marathons and mud runs to the impressive Man vs Mountain race whereby challengers take part in an epic 20 mile run up and around Mount Snowdon, including obstacles and a vertical kilometre climb.

With thanks to a substantial donation from the Harrogate-based company Pinnacle Data where Chris works, the couple managed to double their fundraising target to reach just over the £10,000 mark.

There are many symptoms including fatigue, vision loss, balance problems, stiffness and spasms amongst others. The sponsorship money will go towards providing better grants and support for sufferers of MS, as well as funding for research and treatment.
