Brackenfield’s Royal tea party

14 June 2016

Brackenfield School in Harrogate joined in with the nation’s celebrations for the Queen’s 90th with their own Royal Tea Party.

Pupils came to school in home clothes wearing their own home made crowns and before the party made their own party bag and sandwiches. Residents from the neighbouring Hampden House care home were the invited guests and were treated to songs by the school’s award winning choir.

Principal, Anthony Comerford planted a tree in memory of the occasion. John Shannon from Hampden House gave a short speech of thanks in which he surprised the children by saying that he was born 10 years before the Queen and that although he had never met the Queen, he had met her father, King George. The whole event was inspired by Reception teacher, Mrs. Ingle-Illes who was delighted with the afternoon.

Mrs Ingle-Illes said:

This is exactly how I had envisaged it. The children celebrating our Queen’s 90th in a way that I am sure she would have approved of.” Headteacher, Pat Sowa described the party as a very special Brackenfield event.

It was lovely to see the children in their crowns waving their flags and thoroughly enjoying this special day. I’m sure they will remember this for years to come. It was also very special indeed to be able to share our party with our very special guests from Hampden House.
