Over The Rainbow Care become National winners in dementia care awards

29 May 2016

Megan Dobson and Natalie Sweeting met whilst working in a care home, Megan as the head of activities and Natalie as the deputy manager.

They decided to create Over The Rainbow Care and community day clubs for people with dementia because they wanted to support and enable people to be independent and to carry on doing activities that they enjoy. The day clubs offer a full day of activities, lunch and refreshments and any care support required and also creates an opportunity for respite for carers.

The service is delivered in community settings and promotes friendships, social interaction and having fun.

In November 2015, the services founders won the regional award for best dementia carers for Yorkshire and Humberside at the Great British Care Awards.

Following this, they were entered for the National Award and attended a glamorous awards ceremony at the ICC in Birmingham on Friday 20 May 2016. On the night, they were announced as the National winners of the dementia carer award and best in the UK.

They both said that they were absolutely thrilled to have received the award and that they were delighted to have won in the first 18months of the service opening. Megan and Natalie are both extremely passionate about providing activity focused care that promotes independence, dignity and choice.
