The business end of the EU debate

26 May 2016

Still unsure about the ins and outs of the EU referendum from a business perspective?

You can hear the views of senior business people speaking for and against the EU in a debate being held by Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce on Monday, June 13.

The debate, chaired by Harrogate-based journalist Tim Cook, will discuss the arguments from the point of view of the economy and business.

The chamber’s vice president Steve Pepper, who has organised the meeting, said:

There still seems to be a lot of people sitting on the fence over the EU issue. Hopefully this will give them a chance to work out which side they’re on.

Professor Malcolm Sawyer, from Leeds University, will give a short presentation on the economic factors behind the IN/OUT decision before the debate begins.

Tim Cook from the Harrogate Informer website said:

This will be yet another exciting debate being hosted by the Chamber. Am sure there will be many arguments put for an against. It’s great to have a group that is made up of an impartial speaker, with an economic academic background along with others that will have very strong opinions on staying in or leaving.

The other speakers are Carl Chambers (OUT) – Chairman of the Yorkshire & Humberside Region Business for Britain; David Simister (OUT) – Different PR and UKIP county councillor; Richard Corbett (IN) – Labour MEP for Yorkshire and Humber; Ben Pindar (IN) – Northern Lights PR.

The open meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn, Kings Road, Harrogate, HG1 1XX. Networking begins at 5.30pm, with the debate starting at 6.15pm. For more information, visit www.harrogatechamber.co.uk
