Out of the 220 applications to Higher Education, 101 students have secured offers from Russell Group universities with a further 20 students holding offers from Bath, UEA, Goldsmiths, Lancaster, Leicester, Loughborough and St Andrews.

This is in addition to the five students who secured offers from Cambridge University earlier this year.

Head of Sixth Form, Mr Neil Renton, said:

It is very rewarding to see our students holding excellent offers from a broad range of leading institutions and this reflects the hard work and tenacity of our students, families and their teachers over many years.

Harrogate Grammar School has increased the opportunities for applicants to medical related professions over the last three years through its bespoke medical package and a range of wider activities.

This year 8 applicants secured offers for Medicine and 1 for Veterinary Science. In a particularly competitive year, due to NHS funding cuts planned for 2017, all of those who applied for NHS funded courses have secured offers in Nursing, Radiography and Speech and Language Therapy.

This year the school has also seen an increase in unconditional offers with 20 students from the 2016 cohort holding this type of offer.

In addition, for the second year running a Harrogate Grammar student been successful in gaining a place on the highly competitive Nestle Fast Start Programme.

Jessica Umpleby, who secured one of 6 places, out of over 250 applicants, said:

I was introduced to the Programme through a presentation held at school and was really well supported through the application process. I will be employed by Nestle, working on rotation in different departments whilst studying for a Business degree at Sheffield Hallam.

Another student, Georgina Taylor, has been successful in gaining a place on the KPMG Audit School Leaver Programme and will train to become a qualified Chartered Accountant studying for a degree at Durham University Business School.
