Harrogate Hospital Radio elects Mark Oldfield as its new chairman

16 May 2016

Harrogate Hospital Radio has elected a new chairman.

Mark Oldfield – who joined the charity broadcaster in 2013 after attending an open day at Harrogate District Hospital – has taken over the helm from Ian Wighton, who has stood down after four years in the post.

A development manager for a lighting manufacturer, Mark currently presents two shows as well as being actively involved in fundraising and holding the position of honorary secretary to the committee.

Prior to joining Harrogate Hospital Radio, which next year celebrates its 40th anniversary, Mark worked as a technical operator at The Pulse Radio station in Bradford and was a member of Huddersfield Hospital Radio.

Mark said:

I am honoured to have been elected as chairman of Harrogate Hospital Radio, and am very much looking forward to the challenge.

I want take the opportunity to pay tribute to my predecessor, Ian Wighton, who has led us superbly over the last four years. We all owe him a huge debt of gratitude.

I really enjoy hosting the shows and playing music and I am a regular presenter on our flagship request show, which can be heard each weekday evening.

My aim at Harrogate Hospital Radio is to promote the station and make sure along with the great team we continue to provide a great radio station for Harrogate District Hospital and all the patients.

If anyone ever has to visit the hospital, please do be sure to tune in!
