ASDAN successes celebrated by disabled adults at awards celebration

Disabled adults who have successfully passed a series of vocational qualifications have celebrated their accomplishments at an awards ceremony in Harrogate.

Seven learners were presented with their ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) Employability Skills certificates by County Coun David Jeffels, the chairman of North Yorkshire County Council, at an event held at Disability Action Yorkshire’s Hornbeam Park training centre.

During the event – which was attended by more than 30 parents, carers, service users and staff – those receiving their awards gave a presentation about the work of the charity, and how it supports them in leading as independent lives as possible.

And, thanks to Disability Action Yorkshire, one of the recipients has secured two jobs, one at a Harrogate hotel and the second at a Knaresborough residential home.

The presentation ceremony was followed by a tour of the centre where County Coun Jeffels was shown around the furniture enterprise. Here, he saw for himself the work the learners undertake, which includes restoring donated items.

Disability Action Yorkshire trustee Andrew Newton said:

We are extremely grateful to County Coun Jeffels for taking the time to visit us and present the certificates to the learners.

The seven who have all passed the ASDAN award NVQ in employability skills have come a very long way since they first joined us, and I’m very proud of each and every one of them.

They have grown in confidence and have now gained valuable qualifications, which we hope will secure them future employment.
