Harrogate B&B owner sells up after starring in reality TV show

10 May 2016

Viewers of Channel 4’s battle-of-the-B&Bs television reality show, Four in A Bed, might recognise Harrogate guesthouse owner Marie Lock and her award winning Kings Road bed and breakfast, Scotia House.

Marie took part in an episode of the long-running series which was screened on Tuesday this week (10 May 2016) and  will see the Harrogate hotelier compete with bed and breakfast owners from across the North.

Marie, who filmed this week’s episode over two weeks in Autumn last year, said:

I got good feedback from the other contestants on Scotia House, especially the cleanliness and my excellent breakfasts, and they loved Harrogate.

But Marie was surprised at how much work was involved in filming just one episode of the show.

Marie said:

I was asked by the production company to take part, after a preliminary screen test, but it was actually quite a gruelling ordeal.

It took us two full weeks to film and that was working from very early in the morning until late at night. Obviously it also involved a lot of travelling as the other contestants’ bed and breakfasts which were spread out across the North – in Alston, Blackpool and Edinburgh.

Now that the programme has been screened, Marie has decided to put the five-bedroom Scotia House, which she renovated herself and has run as a bed and breakfast for five years, on the market.

Marie said:

It is a beautiful Victorian house and I have so many regular guests who absolutely love staying here, but I am planning to return to my first love of property renovation.

I will definitely stay here in Harrogate though as I love living here, despite being from York originally: it’s the best town with the nicest people.

Scotia House is on the market with Croft Residential at a guide price of £685,000.
