Soroptimists in Harrogate and District welcome new President

Soroptimist International of Harrogate and District held their AGM and Change of Office on 20th of April at the White Hart Hotel. The Club celebrated the hard work of out-going President Sue Williams and Club members.

President Sue expressed her delighted that the Club had reached the target in being able to provide her chosen charity ‘Our Angels’ with the funding to commission a training day for health professionals who support families who have lost a baby.

The Club has also raised money to improve the environment in the Harrogate Women’s Refuge and, with the support of Rawcliffes Schoolwear Centre, sent book bags and polo shirts to the Club’s friendship link in Pretoria South Africa as part of a literacy project.

Sue handed over the Chain of Office to incoming President Pat Shore. President Pat’s address identified the key areas for the Club’s activities next year. These include: continuing to raise funds for the local Women’s Refuge and the literacy project in Pretoria; support Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland’s three year campaign for the Meru Women’s Garden Project in Kenya and ; launching a Harrogate and District wide  Young Women in the Community Award.

Soroptimist International is a worldwide women service organisation. Membership is open to any women who want to make a difference to the lives of women and girls – Locally, nationally and internationally.
