Plan for the Tour de Yorkshire say health officials

25 April 2016

Local health officials across Harrogate and the rural district are asking residents to plan accordingly for hospital and GP appointments when the Tour de Yorkshire passes through the area on Friday 29 April 2016.

A series of temporary road closures and rolling road blocks will be in place as a number of the world’s best cyclists make the 185km journey from Beverley to Settle on Stage 1 of this year’s race.

Whilst local health officials do not anticipate the Tour de Yorkshire creating any additional pressure on emergency services, an influx in visitors to the area may well increase the number of patients requiring walk-in services and treatment for minor injuries and illnesses.

For non-emergency situations, people should call NHS 111 who will be able to advise on the best action to take.

Dr Rick Sweeney, Governing Body member at Harrogate and Rural District Clinical Commissioning Group said:

With the Tour de Yorkshire travelling through our district on Friday afternoon we would like local residents who either have a hospital or GP appointment to consider the impact the race may have on their travel time.

There may also be older or vulnerable relatives living nearer the route that may be affected by road closures due to the race. We’re asking people to be prepared on what is expected to be a busy Friday across our local road network.
