Demand outstrips supply of industrial business units in Harrogate District

24 April 2016

The redevelopment of the former Dunlopillo site in Pannal illustrates the need for more light industrial business units in the Harrogate District says national property consultancy Carter Jonas.

Work will beginning later in the month on a new access road to the site that will have housing and a care home.

Chris Hartnell, senior surveyor with Carter Jonas said:

We are experiencing record levels of demand for light industrial units and the closure of the business park at Pannal is only likely to exacerbate this.

There is a real shortage of suitable accommodation in the area and businesses would be well advised to investigate their options now to enable them to remain in the District.

Just across town, Follifoot Ridge Business Park has attracted four new tenants in recent months. Educational books and learning resource company Smart Learning; packaging and packing machine engineers Midas Motion; luxury lifestyle store Yorkshire Design Associates and Yorkshire Heat Pumps which designs and installs energy efficient heating systems, have all moved onto the site.

Liz Long of Smart Learning said:

We are delighted to take up a tenancy at Follifoot Ridge Business Park. We moved from our offices at Oakwood Business Park as we needed more space to accommodate the expansion of our business which included the need for a warehouse unit. The business park is also set within a beautiful location which is a bonus.

To help meet demand for similar units, Carter Jonas has secured planning permission for a further 15,000 sq ft unit at Follifoot Ridge Business Park and construction will start on site shortly.
