Businesses help Harrogate disability charity secure £70k government grant

2 April 2016

A Harrogate-based disability charity has secured a major government grant, thanks to the backing of local businesses.

Last autumn, Disability Action Yorkshire appealed to the business community to offer advice in a number of key areas, including research, change management, IT solutions and quality assurance.

Without it the organisation, which has its headquarters and training centre on Hornbeam Park, would not be able to access the money it was seeking in order launch a number of new initiatives aimed at helping young, disabled people.

And, thanks to a number of firms stepping in to share their expertise, Disability Action Yorkshire has been awarded a £70,000 grant funded by the Cabinet Office’s Local Sustainability Fund programme.

Disability Action Yorkshire chief executive Jackie Snape said:

This is wonderful news, and, had it not been for a number of firms from the Harrogate district rallying to our call, we would have fallen at the first fence.

Since submitting our bid at the end of last year, we have been on tenterhooks wondering if we were to receive the financial support or not.

Now we have been told we have been successful we are now able to forge ahead with our plans, which include expanding and personalising the services we offer young, disabled people in the Harrogate district.

This is going to make a huge difference to the lives of disabled people and we can’t wait to start implementing them.
