Worcester City v Harrogate Town match report

20 March 2016

Harrogate Town gained their first ever point at Kidderminster, temporary home of Worcester City, and remain in fourth place in National North.

Warren Burrell returned from suspension and Luke Foster made his league début for Town.

Town survived an early City attack when Dan Nti’s cross found Jordan Murphy, but his header was deflected for a corner.

Aided by a series of free kicks conceded by City, as their defence struggled to contain the visitor’s attacks,Town hit back hard.

Paul Clayton just failed to reach Joe Colbeck’s free kick and Liam Hearn created an opening for Jordan Thewlis who shot straight at Calum Kitscha in the City goal.

Luke Foster pushed forward to head a Lloyd Kerry free kick over the bar, before Hearn squandered the best chance of the first half when sent clear by Colbeck, only for his first touch to be too heavy, giving Kitscha the chance to bravely dive at his feet to block.

Sadly, Hearn had to limp off injured after half an hour, much to his disgust, to be replaced by Jack Emmett.

City were reduced to hitting hopeful crosses into the box which were easily dealt with by Foster and Danny Ellis, while behind them Peter Crook was displaying a safe pair of hands.

Immediately after the break,Kerry’s free kick, after Emmett had been brought down by Sam Minihan was diverted for a corner. Colbeck’s outswinger was expertly glanced in by Clayton, only to be ruled out by the linesman’s offside flag.

Colbeck and Emmett were giving Worcester’s left sided defenders a torrid time as they were finding space down the right, but in a rare City attack, sub Marius Ologu cut in from the right and unleashed a volley from fully thirty yards which sailed past Crook’s far post.

Just after the hour,Dom Knowles replaced the injured Lewis Turner and the industrious Thewlis made way for Brendan Daniels as Town sought to end their league goal drought.

Knowles was soon in the thick of the action when he slammed a pass from Emmett against the crossbar from the edge of the area and then shot at Kitscha after being played in by Clayton.

Kitscha again saved the day for City when he saved a Daniels free kick at the near post after Emmett had been fouled by Alex Gudger.

Kerry found his way into inconsistent referee Joe Hull’s notebook after a foul on Ologu, but Ellis competently dealt with the following free kick.

Town had one last attempt to force a result when an Emmett cross took a wicked deflection off home skipper,Danny Jackman, only for Kitscha to make the save.
