Can Harrogate Town secure promotion to the National League this season?

16 March 2016

After a disappointing 2014-15 campaign, Harrogate Town are currently fourth and stand a great chance of finishing in the playoff spots this season. While current leaders Solihull Moors have a decent advantage at the top of the table, Simon Weaver’s men will still fancy their chances of closing the gap and securing a place in the top five. From there, it’s all about the playoffs.

Harrogate are on a good run and will believe they should go on to finish in the top five this season. They’ve lost their last two games but Weaver’s side will remain confident in their own ability and a relatively kind schedule could see Town finish as high as second – especially if they continue to create opportunities in attack.

At the time of writing, Harrogate are 20/1 with Betway to produce a miraculous surge up the table and win the National League title this season – which would secure automatic promotion to the fifth tier of English football. Will you find the back of the net with your bet? Potentially. While they are still a fair way behind Solihull, it’s certainly not beyond the realms of possibility if Harrogate put a run of form together in the coming weeks.

As of March 15th, Harrogate have the joint-best defensive record in the National League North. Both Town and Solihull have conceded just 36 goals this season and it’s not a major surprise to see the two clubs battling it out at the top of the division. Weaver’s men are well-organised and at the end of the day, defence does win championships. If they can’t win the title, then Harrogate’s defence will stand them in good stead to earn promotion via the playoffs.

On current form, it would take plenty of bravery to back against Harrogate this season and Weaver, who won Manager of the Month for February, knows his side are perhaps the most dangerous team remaining in the playoffs. For the next few months, Betway can keep you updated on the latest news and odds regarding the National League North title race, as well as other major football leagues from around the world.

With two months of the season to go, there are plenty of chances for points to be won and lost. Harrogate may have lost their last couple of games but Weaver’s side are certainly heading in the right direction in the grand scheme of things and even if they don’t manage to secure promotion, they will be there or thereabouts next season. But, with a bit of luck, Harrogate could achieve their ultimate goal this season – they’re certainly good enough.
