Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive named as one of the NHS Top 50

15 March 2016

The Chief Executive of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Ros Tolcer, has been named as one of the Top 50 chief executives in the NHS by leading healthcare publication the Health Service Journal (HSJ).

The HSJ’s third annual list celebrates the NHS leaders whose contributions and vision stand out in challenging times.

Judges commended Ros, saying she is “a very impressive leader who has made the leap from clinician to management. Her experience of developing new models of integrated health and social care may stand her in good stead.”

Ros is one of a small number of medically-qualified CEOs nationally. She was appointed to the role of Chief Executive at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust in August 2014 having previously been the CEO of a Community and Mental Health Trust in Hampshire. She trained as a doctor at Southampton University Medical School and worked a consultant in Reproductive Health before becoming involved in leadership and management.

As Chief Executive, Ros is responsible for ensuring that services are safe, effective, responsive, well-led and provided with care and compassion at all times as well as ensuring the highest standards of financial management. Ros has been at the forefront of initiatives to design New Care Models locally, working with partners as part of the national Vanguard Programme.

Ros said:

I am delighted to be named as one of the HSJ’s 50 Top Chief Executives in the NHS. I am totally committed to ensuring that local people benefit from care of the highest quality. Increasingly this depends upon all parts of the local system acting together and I am proud to be have been recognised in this way.

This recognition is also testament to the professionalism and dedication of hard working colleagues across the Trust. We wouldn’t be as successful as we are here without everyone working together for the benefit of patients. I work with some fantastic colleagues who provide exceptionally high levels of care.

Our mission is to be an exceptional provider of healthcare for the benefit of our communities, our staff and our partners and we work very hard to achieve this.

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust provides acute and community services across Harrogate, North Yorkshire and North Leeds. From 1 April 2016, it will also start providing some children’s services in Middlesbrough, County Durham and Darlington.
