Rossett duo mark Harrogate firm’s 10th anniversary of charity support to district’s young carers

14 March 2016

Children who juggle school and hobbies with the demands of looking after a loved one have thanked a Harrogate company as it celebrates ten unbroken years of charity support.

Si Recruitment, headquartered at Windsor House on Cornwall Road, first started to back the work of the Carers’ Resource when it bought its Christmas cards back in 2005.

Every year since then, the agency has helped young carers across Harrogate and Ripon in different ways – all designed to give them a break from the day-to-day pressures they face.

This has included the funding of a range of activities and outings – from sailing in the North Sea to going to the pantomime at Harrogate Theatre – as well as the annual festive hampers and presents for young carers.

Joint founding Director Mark Sanderson even pounded the streets of York in the inaugural Yorkshire Marathon to raise money for the cause.

Director, Sharron Inglis said:

We’ve recruited a lot of talent since we launched in 2004 – and the taking on of the Carers’ Resource as our adopted charity has opened our eyes to the array of skills that exist among this group of young people.

We are all delighted that our efforts have made a difference to so many over the years.

Mark added:

Young carers first appealed to us as a deserving cause as they were ‘under the radar’ – they were very much hidden and carried out their vital role away from the public gaze. Yet their needs were – and still are – very real.

Two of the young carers that have benefited from Si Recruitment’s involvement are Rossett School pupils Freya Prince and Stephen Kirk, who presented a home-made cake to mark the milestone.

It celebrates its 20th anniversary of supporting young carers later this year.

Anne Wells, Events and Fundraising Coordinator of the Carers’ Resource, said:

There are more than 5,000 reasons why we would like to thank the Mark, Sharon and the team at Si – that’s how much money they have raised for our young carers.

They are among our longest-standing supporters and the 10th anniversary seemed a fitting occasion to place on record our thanks for their generosity, and the contribution they have made to enriching the lives of the growing number of young carers we support.

They have put a lot of smiles on the faces of young people over the years. It would be wonderful if other organisations across North Yorkshire feel inspired by Si’s efforts and follow in their footsteps by supporting these young carers in whatever way they can.
