Window Wanderland to light up Harrogate

3 March 2016

A small group of Harrogate mums are to light up their neighbourhood in Oatlands this weekend in the first window Wanderland project in the north.
First launched in Bristol last year by Lucy Reeves, Window Wanderland attracted BBC news coverage as windows were turned into art. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-31206028

The aim of Window Wanderland is to create a magical night-time walking trail in an urban area by visiting the roads where front windows and gardens have been transformed. Over 80 houses and businesses have already signed up to take part on Friday 4 March  and Saturday 5 March, between 6-9pm and details of where they are can be obtained from the Oatlands Community website.

This event is being organised by a group of five mums who all live in the Oatlands area and who all feel passionately about their local area and community.

Vic Smith Dunn of the Oatlands Community Group said:

We have all got to know each other through our local fundraising and community efforts in the last 15years and recently the opportunity arose for us to get together and run an event that is a little bit different but still community based.

We are hoping that this event will reach out across all sectors of our community offering something for everyone.

Winter can be an isolating for many people as we tend to spend a lot of our time indoors but we are hoping such an event will help people come together.

The event is free to take part in whether you are displaying something in your window or garden or just looking to wander around on one of the evenings. During the evening Oatlands Community will be collecting donations for St Michael’s Hospice.
