Students at Rossett School in Harrogate have shown early promise in the Rotary Technology competition.

The team of four Year 9 students – Jack Lewis, Ellie Whitehead, Adam Sherratt and George Taylor – designed and made a moving vehicle with a motor powered by a battery.

The invention had to be capable of driving through a drain pipe tube and under a bridge, as well as pushing along some stones. The team won silver in the Foundation category of the competition.

Ellie said:

We had a lot of fun on the competition day and we learned a lot too.

It was great to see our vehicle moving by the end of the day and we were really proud to win silver.

Technology teacher Jess Hellawell added:

The Rotary Technology Competition is always a fun and educational event and we enjoyed taking part again this year.

The team from Rossett worked extremely hard and put a lot of thought into their project. They were a credit to the school and justly came away with an award as a result of their ingenuity!
