Time running out for primary school applications

8 January 2016

North Yorkshire County Council is urging parents and guardians to complete their primary school admission forms as soon as possible or risk not getting a place for their child or children at their preferred school in the 2016/17 academic year.

Children living in North Yorkshire and born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 are eligible to start primary school in September 2016, so parents and guardians need to apply for a reception place. The deadline for primary school admissions is midnight on Friday 15 January 2016.

The quickest and easiest way to apply is to complete an application form via the council’s website at www.northyorks.gov.uk/primaryadmissions

Using the online admission system will provide parents with an automatic email, confirming that the application form has been received.

“It really is important to complete the form on time,” said County Councillor Arthur Barker, Executive Member for Schools. “The deadline allows applications to be considered together, enabling councils and schools to work together to allocate the first choice of school to as many children as possible. Late applications – without good reason – can only be dealt with after all on-time applications have been dealt with and this could mean that where the preferred school is oversubscribed it is not possible to allocate a place to late applicants.

“This is an important and exciting time for your child, so please follow our advice and make sure you get your application in on time.”

Anyone applying for a place at a church aided primary school must complete a supplementary information form and return it by the time stated in the admissions policy for that school.

Parents who do not have access to the internet at home can get access at all North Yorkshire libraries. Alternatively, paper copies are available on request from the school admissions office, on 01609 533679 or via email, schooladmissions@northyorks.gov.uk
