Fitness team gears up for million kilo charity challenge

A fitness team from are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Yorkshire Research by lifting one million kilos in just 24 hours.

The epic challenge, which will take place on March 12-13 next year, has been organised by two of the town’s most experienced personal trainers to celebrate the launch of their new business, thebodydocs.

Ollie Holtam and Shaun Hallett will bring together a team of 12 people at Prospect 1 Fitness Studios, thebodydocs’ new premises on Prospect Crescent, where they will be required to lift their own body weight more than a thousand times to reach the million kilo goal.

Shaun said:

As far as we’re aware this hasn’t been done before. The challenge will be carefully programmed to allow for individual capabilities and to ensure that everyone is fed and rested properly throughout. The team consists of both sexes, all sizes and age from 20 to 60 years old. We hope to demonstrate that weight training is suitable for everyone.

Ollie added:

We’re really keen to ensure that the challenge is demanding but also safe and achievable. Yorkshire Cancer Research has been hugely supportive as our partner and we are delighted to have the opportunity to generate funds for this very special cause. Cancer affects almost everyone in some way during their lives and we want to play our part in raising awareness of how proper nutrition and effective training can reduce your risk of developing the disease.

The ‘Million Kilo Challenge’ will include squatting, deadlifting and bench pressing and each participant will prepare with personalised programmes during the next four months. They will also come together to train as the ‘Millionaire’s Club’ on a regular basis and the aim is to raise a minimum of £10,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Ollie and Shaun are hoping local businesses will get involved and sponsor the challenge, perhaps in exchange for company personal training sessions.

Louise Robinson, Regional Fundraiser at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said:

We’re really excited to be involved in such an ambitious and unique . Training for the challenge will require a huge amount of commitment from each participant and we’re amazed at the lengths the team are going to for the cause. We wish them all the very best of luck with their preparation and look forward to supporting them during the weekend.
