Local man raises £5,000 for cardiac nurses in memory of his father

20 November 2015

Local man honours his father’s memory by raising £5,000 to support the cardiac nurses at Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust

To show his appreciation for the fantastic cardiac care his father received in hospital, Harrogate man Craig Kirk has completed a series of inspiring fundraising activities for Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity.

Craig has twice competed in the London Triathlon, and has undertaken many other gruelling events, such as the 54-mile London to Brighton Cycle Ride and the tough London Survival of the Fittest. On top of all this, he has recently completed his first half marathon.

In total, Craig has raised a staggering £5,000 for his nominated fund, the Harrogate Cardiac Unit, at Harrogate District Hospital, in memory of his father, David Kirk.

Following a heart attack and major surgery, David was cared for by the cardiac nurses at Harrogate District Hospital. He sadly passed away in October 2014, but the money raised in his memory will buy additional cardiac equipment and allow the nurses to continue delivering fantastic care and support.

Craig said:

A year has passed since the great (little) man passed away. He is gone, but never forgotten and always sadly missed. Since his passing we have raised nearly £5,000.00 for the Harrogate Cardiac unit as the support he had was amazing.

Emma Edgar, Cardiology Specialist Nurse at Harrogate District Hospital, said:

The fundraising undertaken by Craig and his friends and family in memory of his father David has provided wonderful support for the cardiac nurse team, enabling us to buy new equipment and to support additional training for the team. David was a very special man and we remember him very fondly and are extremely grateful to his family for supporting our work in this way.
