The award comes on the back of being presented with North East Restaurant of the Year by the Good Food Guide, and Gold for Ripon in Bloom, for the North Street’s floral baskets.

Matthew said:

We all know that the quality of any dish is absolutely reliant on the quality of the ingredients used in its preparation. To have found a supply of spectacularly fresh fruit and vegetables within a stone’s throw of my kitchen is truly extraordinary!

According to the judges they were impressed by the business’ mission statement that was “simple but imaginative and reflective of the fantastic food and passion for what they offer.

Talking about the restaurant’s link with the heritage gardens of The Ripon Workhouse Museum, judges said they were impressed with the local collaborations to get Yorkshire food on the menu and heritage varieties of produce on offer.  “A stand out entry from a fantastic restaurant and a real Yorkshire gem.

Ripon based Lockwoods pride themselves on two things, classic seasonal dishes and their strong Yorkshire roots. The family run restaurant has been established for over ten years and provide a relaxed atmosphere and offer a seasonal menu of modern European dishes focusing on flavour local produce.

Lockwoods was voted Neighborhood Restaurant of the Year, one of the best places for Sunday lunch and a regular in The Good Food Guide. It’s a relaxed space with a focus on really good, seasonal, modern European food with a twist.
