Transdev Harrogate and Harrogate rugby club are making easier to get to the grounds on Rudding Lane.

The Harrogate to Leeds 770 bus will drop fans on the front doorstep of the club’s new ground at Rudding Lane with a special discounted day return from Harrogate costing just £3 when fans show their rugby match ticket to the driver as they board.

Harrogate attracted a crowd of over 1,000 for their first home fixture of the season against local rivals Otley. The club is hoping for a similar turn out this Saturday when they welcome Sandal for a 3pm kick-off.

Transdev’s Chief Executive Alex Hornby said he was delighted to team up with the club.

Alex Hornby said:

Our bus company has served Harrogate for over 100 years but there are still new methods to explore of getting more people on board, and to link up our communities.

This latest partnership to drive attendance at Harrogate RUFC reduces the cost of travel, eliminates the need to drive and park, and supports a great sporting club in their new ground.

  • Home matches at Rudding Lane start at 3pm in September and the majority of October.
  • Buses run hourly during the day Monday to Saturday.
  • On Saturdays, fans can catch the 2.05pm 770 from Stand 9 at Harrogate Bus Station
  • And arrive at the ground for 2.18pm
  • Return journeys  on 770 stop at the ground at 5.16pm, 6.16pm and 7.22pm.

Convenient stops are also located along North Park Road and Wetherby Road between The Stray and Forest Lane. From 24 October, when kick-off is 2pm, a bus will depart Harrogate at 1.05pm, arriving for 1.18pm.

A day return will cost just £3 when presenting a match or season ticket to the driver when the customer boards. Usual fares are £3.50 return, or £2.50 single.

Harrogate Rugby Club chairman James Smithies said:

We are delighted to partner with Transdev to offer our members and fans discounted tickets. We are very proud of our new facilities and the bus route will only make it easier for people to get here to enjoy them.
