Claudia, a family solicitor at Harrogate Family Law, has already completed this month’s Great North Run with her two best friends and will run a second half marathon, the Vale of York, on Sunday before taking part in her first marathon a couple of weeks later.
I enjoy running but have always insisted I would never run a marathon.
It wasn’t until my friends, who haven’t done any serious running before, put themselves forward to do the Great North Run with me that I felt it was time I took the leap.
Claudia’s marathon bid will mark the culmination of six months of training covering over 600 miles in 150 hours and will raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
The two half marathons are raising money for the British Heart Foundation, which was chosen by one of my running partners in the Great North Run to recognise the support her mother has received from the charity.
I wanted to run my marathon for a local charity and chose Yorkshire Cancer Research because the effort I’ve put in to prepare for the event is nothing compared to the struggle faced by those fighting to survive and cope with cancer.
The Yorkshire Marathon will be held in York on 11 October 2015.
