River Ure salmon trust’s “big fish” event celebrated in style

10 August 2015

More than 80 anglers have celebrated the success of an environmental project that is helping the River Ure regain its crown as one of England’s premier salmon fishing rivers.

The Ure Salmon Trust staged its “Big Fish Event” at Masham’s White Bear Hotel to help further promote its aims and ambitions, in addition to encouraging those present to become members of the organization.

Guests were treated to a pint of Theakston’s on arrival and heard speeches from Ure Salmon Trust Project Manager David Bamford, sponsor Simon Theakston, Executive Director of T&R Theakston Ltd, and sponsor Simon Britton, Partner from George F White.

After the unveiling of “The Big Fish” – a 35lb salmon landed by David Bamford on the River Ure – Rodney Tennant, from Tennant’s Auctioneers, took control of the sale of four lots, which had been kindly donated by supporters, land and riparian owners.

This, together with a prize draw, raised more than £3,000, to help fund the Trust’s ongoing work.
