The Iron Gate fields adjacent to the proposed development

Councillor places his support behind development in the Duchy area of Harrogate

8 July 2015

The Harrogate Borough Councillor for Harlow Moor, Don Mackenzie, has put his support behind the proposal by the Duchy of Lancaster to build 160 new houses on the edge of the Duchy Estate.

The area is currently a green field site.

The Duchy of Lancaster is a private estate owned by Her Majesty The Queen, as Duke of Lancaster.

The location is on the outskirts of the Duchy are of Harrogate, adjacent to the Iron Gates playing fields and the Pinewoods.

Harrogate Borough Councillor, Don Mackenzie said:

I am quite impressed by the proposals set out by the Duchy of Lancaster. The planned development would appear to offer a well-designed estate of very low housing density.

The provision of green spaces and better facilities for sports fields for Brackenfield School and for the girl guides is to be welcomed.

Of course, the concerns of local residents are likely to be about the additional vehicle movements, which this development will create, and whether yet more housing development proposals will follow later.
