Macmillan Cancer Support is calling for supporters to help them paint Harrogate green on Saturday 27 June to raise vital funds for local people affected by cancer.
Last year Harrogate Takeover Day raised over £5,000 for services at the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre at Harrogate District Hospital, and with the support of local businesses including Boots and Berwins Solicitors, the cancer charity will be taking over the town again this year to raise even more funds and awareness.
Michaela Crosthwaite, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan in Harrogate said:
We are so excited about Harrogate Takeover Day, and we are looking for local businesses to take part and collectors to volunteer for a couple of hours on the day to help raise as much money and awareness for our local services as possible, and to inspire people to get involved with fundraising or volunteering.
We will be collecting at every street corner in the town providing a host of entertaining activities with our furry mascot friends, and including a few surprises too!
Various retailers and local businesses have already pledged their support by holding coffee mornings, cake sales, raffles and even challenge events on the day to encourage donations, while others have simply agreed to display bunting, balloons and banners in the run up to the event.
We are a national charity with a local heart, and believe that no one in Harrogate should have to face cancer alone. Cancer is a cause that touches almost everyone and the need is now greater than ever, with 904 new cancer diagnoses every year in Harrogate alone.
Our local services do an incredible job of supporting cancer patients and their families and friends, but as a charity we rely almost entirely on voluntary donations, so the work we do simply wouldn’t be possible without the fantastic support of the people of Harrogate!
The charity team at Harrogate law firm Berwins, which is led by Rachel Robinson, will be dressing up for the occasion and giving away goodies on the day.
Rachel Robinson said:
We’re delighted to be supporting this Macmillan event and our involvement is part of our ongoing
fundraising efforts for Macmillan during 2015, aiming to raise ￡10k for the charity over the year.
The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre at Harrogate District Hospital opened its doors in 2014 to provide free confidential support and information for everyone affected by cancer. As well as housing the hospital’s brand new chemo unit, it offers welfare and benefits advice and support, information on all aspects of cancer, physiological therapies, complimentary therapies, signposting to other services and patient support group information.
