A Yorkshire career coach has come up with a new initiative to help students secure their dream job when they leave university.

Jane Barrett’s Career Bootcamp will put graduates through their paces and prepare them for the interview and assessment process.

The intensive one-day event will be held in Harrogate in June and will be facilitated by graduate recruitment experts who have worked with major employers such as Shell, Norton Rose, Yorkshire Water, AstraZeneca and Diageo.

Jane said: Since the introduction of tuition fees, the financial burden of supporting a young person through university is one of the largest faced by families and this event is designed to help graduates turn their degrees into job offers that will justify that commitment and expense.

There was a time when a degree from a good university was a passport to pretty much anything career wise but years of recession have made it much harder for graduates to secure that first rung on the ladder and this event is all about giving them the skills to achieve their career goals.

After a career in HR, recruiting for PWC, Dell Computers, Whitbread, UBS, Barclays, numerous start-ups, private companies and other PLCs, Jane has spent the past 15 years at the helm of Harrogate-based Career Farm, a leading provider of career workshops and mock assessment centres to UK and European Business Schools and Universities.

Her Career Bootcamp will be held at Pavilions of Harrogate at the Great Yorkshire Showground on Saturday 27th June 2015.

For every 10 places sold Jane will provide a free community place for a local student who can’t afford to fund a place themselves.

The course is aimed at students who are currently studying at university or are about to graduate.

Jane said: This is a not-for-profit event and the experts taking part have chosen not to charge their full fees so that it is as affordable as possible for families.

Any surplus revenue generated will be used to fund additional community places.

The selection process for graduate jobs has never been tougher – online assessments and video interviews are a way of whittling down vast numbers of applications for each post – so it’s not surprising that applicants are worried they’ll never get off the starting blocks.

Those attending the bootcamp will be given access to a unique online training course to help them go right back to basics to identify their skills, values and interests to help them consider how this might influence their career choice.

We will also focus on improving their CV and applications, interview preparation and creating a professional social media profile.

The final stage of the bootcamp will be a mock interview process where candidates will get feedback from experienced graduate recruiters.

Career Bootcamp is open to current university students and recent graduates and runs from 9am to 5.30pm on Saturday 27th June at Pavilions of Harrogate.  To book a place, apply for a community place or find out more about the event call Jane Barrett on 0113 328 0126 or go to http://career-boot-camp.eventbrite.co.uk
