Appeal after 17-year-old pushed over in Ripon shop robbery

4 November 2014

Police are appealing for information following a robbery in the city that occurred at around 3.20pm on Friday 31 October 2014.

Two men entered Hillside Nurseries Greengrocers on Fishergate and one of them asked the shop assistant, a 17-year-old girl, for help at a display outside the store.

The second man then attempted to take money from the cash register. When the assistant returned and challenged the man a few moments later, she was pushed over as both men left empty handed.

After the men left the shop they headed towards the Market Place and onto Westgate.

The first man is described as white, around 5ft 8in tall and aged in his early to mid twenties. He was wearing a tan coloured jacket with black sleeves and jeans. He was carrying a bag, worn across his body, and was wearing a dark hat.

The second man is also described as white, in his early to mid twenties and was slightly taller at around 5ft 10in. He was wearing a black leather jacket, jeans and light coloured hat.

PC Lorraine Diggins, of Ripon Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: Thankfully the girl who working in the shop at the time was not seriously injured as a result of this robbery. However, she has naturally been left very shaken by this experience.

If you can help to identify either of the men involved in this incident I urge you to come forward and contact the police straight away.
