Harrogate hospital issues statement ahead of National industrial action

10 October 2014

NHS staff in England have voted to strike for four hours on Monday, 13 October 2013 in a disagreement over pay.

This will be the first walkout by health workers in 32 years and has come about due to unions being in dispute over the Government’s offer of a one per cent pay rise for NHS workers.

It is thought that UK-wide, up to 500,000 NHS staff represented by nine unions could take part in the planned walk out

Robert Harrison, Chief Operating Officer at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, said: We have planned carefully for the national industrial action taking place on Monday and are confident that we will run a near to normal service across both our Hospital and community based services.

We currently expect to cancel one antenatal clinic at Harrogate District Hospital and those patients affected are being given appointments in other clinic slots. We anticipate that all other services will run normally.

We would like to reassure people that all emergency services, including our Emergency Department and Maternity unit, will be fully open as normal if they are needed.

We have excellent relations with the trade unions that represent staff within our organisation and have worked constructively with them to maintain the safety and quality of patient care whilst facilitating the right of those staff who wish to take legal industrial action.
