Wesley Centre to host open weekend following £250,000 refurbishment

17 September 2014

The Wesley Centre in Harrogate is to reopen later this month following a £250,000 refurbishment of its Oxford Street premises.

The new centre, previously known as the Wesley Chapel, will open its doors to the public on the weekend of 27 and 28 September 2014.

The extensive refurbishment project, managed by the Nidd Valley Methodist Circuit, has seen new double-glazing, furniture and updated kitchen facilities for the Grade 2 listed building, whilst the pews from the building’s Upper Hall have been replaced by moveable seats.

While its name may have changed, its role remains largely the same with the centre continuing the Christian outreach and service carried out for 200 years by the Methodist Chapel to the benefit of the wider Harrogate community.

Opening celebrations will include a piano recital from students and staff at the prestigious Chetham’s School of Music as well as tours of the new facilities.

Tim Hurren, Chairman of the Wesley Centre project, said: We believe that we have created a wonderful new space at the heart of Harrogate.

It is now suitable for conferences, exhibitions, meetings and concerts and we would encourage everyone to come inside and discuss how we can work with them to meet their needs.

We are extremely grateful to the many organisations whose generosity and interest have helped turn this vision into a reality.

Deacon David Hunt, Wesley Centre Team Leader, said: This is a really important step in the renewal and development of Christian witness in the heart of Harrogate.

We are looking forward very much to continue the long tradition of serving the town which stretches back over 150 years.

The Wesley Centre will be open from 10am on Saturday, 27 September 2014.
